Not one, not two, but three new videos

Kevin Huth and I finished editing the ”Shoes of a Fisherman” performance at Asana in Santa Cruz. It turned out pretty good but you’ll have to see for your self:

The other two videos are live from the Ugly Mug in Soquel. I had no idea they were going to record but it turned out well. I played “Common Ground,” a new tune written about the importance of looking at things from a birds eye perspective. The video is not so good but the sound quality is excellent. Live Vid

We recorded the last show on April 3rd at Asana in Santa Cruz. It came out ok, good enough for youtube. I’ll let you know when it will go live on youtube. With that one down we will begin the video for “Clear Day” within the next month. The story boards have been created and pre-production is in the works.

Be well.

It’s already March 1st!

I’m currently waiting for my summer schedule. Empty Vessel Music should have some dates pretty soon. For those of you in the Northern California/Oregon area, thank you for your patience. I’ll be sure to hit some cities in your area this summer. As for now, I’m doin an acoustic show in Santa Clara on March 14th. Check my “shows” page.

I have lots of new tunes. Most recently I have penned “Common Ground”,  “Jenn’s Song,” and “It’s just not Right.” The band has been practicing these among others to get ready for the future gigs. Not sure when they’ll be put to tape, well, I mean 0’s and1’s, but hopefully sooner than later. Make sure to check out  the acoustic version of Daphne on my myspace page.

Till next time…

“Daphne” up on Myspace

So I put a home recording that we did last week up on myspace-www.myspace.com/robowenmusic

This was done live, all one-takes. Also, there are no drums on the recording. We were recording this tune for the label but I decided it was at least listenable. Make sure to say hi on myspace if you get a chance.

BTW my schedule is open for the next few months. If you live in the bay area and need band for a gig or private party let me know. If you don’t live around the bay area, I’m ok with travelling.

Off to rehearsal,

Rob

New Songs and New Images

So I’ve been playing a lot lately. The light of day is changing. It is that wonderful orange and blue sky at dusk that reminds me of things…”Here For You” is a song about waking up from a dream, dazed, in a large open meadow, then remembering I was on a journey that was to lead me over the mountain ahead . “In Front of Me” is a song that basically lists all of the wants in my life. It also suggests that all I really need is right in front of me. ”Something Beautiful” is a song praising my love. It is a song that questions how she can give me all she does each and every day. “I Die For a Good Cause” is a song dedicated to my not so distant cousin, Thomas Ashe, who fought against British troops in Ireland’s Easter Rising. This song is from his perspective as he sat in a cold cell singing the songs his father once sung to him. It is a song about a man who followed his passion for truth and justice until he was killed in his jail cell by British troops during a peaceul protest. “Here and Gone” is a song that is about liminality.

About the pic’s…

We all went out to get some pictures taken for upcoming promotions. I ran into an old friend and she said she’d love to help out. Cat met us downtown Saturday morning and we began the photo shoot there. Dave (drummer) and Will (bassist) showed up looking like rock stars. Then (keys/piano) showed up in his gold silk and satin shirt, slacks, and sporting $300 shoes! Cat was like wow! You guys are ready to go! So we took some photos downtown, then Cat wanted to get photos at an old cemetery. So we went there, then headed off to a nice hillside somewhere in the mountains. We climbed some trees and left for our last location, the river. Yes, we took pictures in a river in the middle of November. Besides for losing all feeling in our legs, it was fun.

I’ll be recording a few scratch tracks of the new songs. I may put them up on myspace if they end up sounding ok. Be checking out www.myspace.com/robowenmusic.

Until next time….

Signed to Empty Vessel Music

I signed the EV contracts and sent them out today. After very little negotiations, I will be an EV artist for at least a year. The contract was very fair and honestly the best one I’ve ever seen. My attorney said it was all good. I think he may have wanted to argue over a few things but I told him I was comfortable with the agreement. What does this mean for me? Well EV is a label that helps their artists help other people through music. Imagine that. Music as an instrument of social change! Right now EV is in Myanmar building a recording studio and helping out in the surrounding area. I will get to be apart of this. I will also be recording some new songs, playing some benefit shows, and gaining some national exposure.

Any way, until next time!

Many Blessings,

Rob

Back from the tour…

After two and a half weeks driving up and down the coast I’m back in the little town of Santa Cruz. Along the way I met some good people, saw some wonderful sites, and listened to some great local songwriters. I’ll definitely do this again next summer.

There are a couple towns I must revisit like Ashland, Eugene, and Bellingham. Ashland was a friendly place with some great local songwriters. Bluegrass and folk was the thing over there. I will forgive them for their bad pizza (I went to three places) only because of the microbrews on tap. Luckey’s in Eugene was a surprising hot spot for a weekday show at 10:30pm. Both the pool tables and the bar were full that night with some very inviting locals. I thought this California boy was gonna get a little attitude, but nothing at all. Very cool people. Bellingham was my favorite town. We ate at a wonderful place on the main strip that over looked the ocean. We had ice cream that we bought out of an old broken down bus that was made into a ice cream and yogurt stand. That night I played the “The Green Frog Acoustic Tavern.” The choice of brew was great. The “Triple Belgian” and “Scottish Ale” were most memorable. Made a lot of friends that night. I should have some pictures up soon.

North West Summer Tour and festivals are Booked

North West Summer Tour and festivals are booked for this summer! New songs will be played, sun will be shining, and wine will be flowin’. I have a few new players for this summer session of gigs so make sure to do your best to come out and see what happens live. The synergy during rehearsal has been quite an infectious vibe.

See you there
